Director Shawn Byers keeps the pace of the multiplying complications spinning along smartly. The eight-person cast displays excellent comic timing, making the best of Cooney’s frequent laugh lines.
The production of Sweeney Todd that opened in Little Theater of Alexandria on Saturday night to a packed house was nothing short of theatrical brilliance.
Fascination is not necessarily fascinating. The 17 characters in the misleadingly titled All the King’s Women are fascinated by Elvis Presley.
In all, this tale was full of European flavor through excellent dialects, terror from unexpected visitations and subtly executed effects. Moreover, the acting was engaging from the beginning to the end.
People who enjoy tuning into the exploits of Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot on the PBS Mystery series will enjoy Little Theater of Alexandria’s take on Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution.
WATCH (Washington Area Theatre Community Honors) announced the nominations for the 12th annual WATCH Awards. 127 productions (40 musicals, 87 plays) by thirty-two community theater companies were adjudicated in 2011.
LTA’s Noises Off was, overall, a wild ride with few bumps in the road.
The LTA production of Rabbit Hole bodes well for the company’s evolution. By community theater standards — by any standards, really — the show is both enjoyable and admirable.
A lively show well done. It uses song and dance to make a statement that everyone is beautiful. No matter what their size.
