The classical style of Moliere met the rambunctious and energetic expression of Commedia dell’ Arte in an explosion of theatrical creativity at Yorktown High School this weekend in their production of The Imaginary Invalid.
“Where do you live, Peter Pan?” Wendy asked, waiting anxiously for an answer. “Second star to the right and straight on till morning!” answered Peter. Well, Yorktown’s production of Peter Pan was ‘straight on’ and had a few ‘stars’ thrown in to boot. They brought Neverland to life, making anyone say ‘I Won’t Grow Up.’
The entire auditorium was transformed into a farm, with straw scattered in the aisles, a milling crowd of animals clustered on the stage, and a giant sign brandishing the name of “Manor Farm” over the audience’s heads; Yorktown High was performing Animal Farm, adapted by Nelson Bond from the novel by George Orwell.
