Backstage: YAGMCB Rehearsal Update #2By Laura & Mike Clark • Jan 27th, 2007 • Category: You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Listen to us discuss Thursday night’s rehearsal of Springfield Community Theatre’s production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown [MP3 2:07 624K].
Mike: Welcome to the ShowBizRadio Backstage podcast. We are focusing on Springfield Community Theatre’s production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Laura: Tonight we went to the rehearsal at the Immanuel Methodist Church in Annandale, Virginia and sat in on the music rehearsal of some of the cast members. We realized in looking at the podcast of a few days ago that we didn’t tell you who the cast members are.
Mike: You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown has six different characters. Maria Benzie is playing Snoopy. Cody Boehm is plaing Sally. Steven Haber is playing Linus.
Laura: Lexi Haddad is playing Lucy. Keith J. Miller is playing Charlie Brown. Spencer Mickelson is playing Schroeder.
Mike: The rehearsal tonight went really well, I thought. It reiterated to me why I will never be in a musical unless I’m like the narrator or something that doesn’t have to sing. Almost all the cast was there and went through a few of the numbers. I had a script with me (I stole somebody’s) and read through the lines while they were singing them. It’s a deceptively easy show. It sounds very fun, and it is very fun. It sounds very straightforward.
In reality there was one song there were five different parts going on at the same time with different lyrics and different tempos with the words that they’re doing. It was really fun watching Mims play the piano and having the different people going through the different parts. Then they would try to put everybody all together and they would do good up to a certain point and they couldn’t figure out why they were going off. Then they realized the notes have changed, they’re no longer whatever, they’re now something else. They fixed that and it sounded really good.
Laura: This was a really good rehearsal tonight and we will be back on Saturday afternoon for another rehearsal and will be getting back to you with our next backstage look at You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Mike: And now, on with the show.
