I’m sorry to hear it was too loud. That is often the problem with a lot of Sondheim, you have to sing it full voice, especially the recurring “Ballad of Sweeney Todd”, there are specific notes where it really sounds like shrieking if done right. That of course works in a giant broadway stage, but the intimate spaces of community theaters have less place for the sound to travel. I confess I was seated about 2/3 of the way back and it was ok, maybe if you revisit the theater you can ask for a seat further away?

Hi James, That’s interesting. That’s not a problem I’ve experienced at LTA shows I’ve attended. Which performance did you attend? Where were you seated? Thanks for sharing your experience.

We left at intermission. The cast screamed more than they sang. The audio system was simply deafening…. enough to give me a splitting headache. Otherwise, the performance was good.
