Broadway Treasures is a collection of Broadway songs from the 1940’s to modern day. Overhead projection was used to identify each song and the corresponding musical. This was a nice touch, otherwise I’m sure audience members would have spent a lot of time rustling their programs to see what show a song was from. One question however, was it necessary for the RMT logo to be put on every slide?

The five performers may have experienced some opening night jitters. Not all the notes were hit perfectly and there were some minor set problems to open the second act. However, all that aside, the performers seemed to get into character well and all sang with conviction.

Katie McManus and John Loughney made good sparing partners singing “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” From Annie Get Your Gun. Steve Block’s song “Maria” from West Side Story was moving, as was Allison Block’s stirring “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables. Hannah Willman shared her tender side with “You’ll Never Walk alone” from Carousel.

Under the musical direction and keyboard of RMT President Scott Richards, this look at Broadway Treasures Past.. And Present will have you humming all the way home. The show ran 1 hour and fifty minutes with one intermission. It is playing Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, through Saturday June 20, at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

And now, on with the show.
