This is the ShowBiz Radio review of The Eight: Reindeer Monologues, performed by the Little Theatre of Alexandria in Alexandria, Virginia. We saw the performance on Saturday evening, December 6, 2008.
The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is a work by Jeff Goode. Scandal strikes the North Pole! Santa’s using more than a whip to keep his reindeer in line, and some aren’t going to stand for it anymore.
This isn’t your grandmother’s LTA. This is a late night, very adult series of monologues performed by eight veteran actors. It contains adult language and situations. This is definitely not a show for the whole family.
Each monologue ran about 10 minutes long. The basic plot line of the show, telling the reindeer’s reactions to a disturbing incident involving Santa got old after a few stories. It would have been nice to get a wider range of monologues from the playwright, Jeff Goode. Some of the most creative monologues were Hollywood (James Finley) was a new character who shared the scoop on the celebrity lifestyle, while Dancer (Kat Sanchez) shared her experience of interviewing to be on the Eight team.
All of the characters were in modern dress that were appropriate for their character. The only prop was a chair and each “reindeer” wore a set of antlers on his or her head. Costumes were done by Joan A.S. Lada.
The Eight: Reindeer Monologues ran one hour and twenty minutes without intermission. It is playing through Saturday December 20th. Thursday through Saturdays at 10:30 at the Little Theatre of Alexandria in Alexandria, Virginia.
