According to the Wikipedia, the original story had everyone die by the end of the story. The play though needed exposition, so there were survivors. You might check at Samuel French for the rights to use the play. They should know if a version is available with the original ending.

I directed it years ago at the HS where I teach, and now that version is out of print and I want to do it again. If you could direct me to the original version I would be SO grateful.
